My father wants to meet the guy I like?

Well, this guy and I like eachother alot but we have yet to go on a date, reason being is that my dad wishes to meet him before, which is fine I guess? I mean, from my understanding I thought that the father meets the guy the day that the daughter and him go on a date, well my father wants to meet him but doesnt want us going on a date that day? Is that commen? Basicly im nervous because Idk whats gonna happen/ how im gonna go about it. Like should this guy come and introduce himself and leave? I mean that seems kinda rude no? .. BTW this is the first guy ive had come over, iv never been through this, iv never had a bf either so its all new to me. What did you do when you had your bf come over? Please and thank you :)
