What to do with medium length curly frizzy thick hair?

i have shortish hair (around my shoulders) and i have no idea what to do with it...i hate using mousse because it makes it sticky. my hair is so unbelievable thick so its hard to do much with it. I have it nice before i go to bed but when i wake up its all flat and leaves me depressed in the mornings.. HELP!
