Ladies..is this normal?

Ok so I'm 17 and I still feel uncomfortable about talking about periods which is completely immature. But my mom is a gynecologist and she can be a little embarrassing sometimes. She had her friend over for dinner and they were talking about "women problems" and my mom was giving her medical advice and stuff. So all of a sudden my mom started asking me about my period and stuff at the dinner table and it was so embarrassing! I don't know why I just think periods are a private thing and I don't like discussing it will people. Is this normal?? Will I ever grow out of this?
