What age should you start seeing a gynecologist? ?

I am 14 and not sexually active. Am I too young to begin visiting a gynecologist? I've heard you don't need to start until you become sexually active. But I've also heard you have to start when you start your period. I've already started and all is normal and fine so would it be pointless to see one? Would they be unhappy that I wasted their time?
