Bad influence may make the situation worse?

A close friend of mine suffers depression now and cuts himself. He was introduced to cutting and drugs by his ex girlfriend. He has been doing alittle better latley but now is intouch with the old girlfriend. Do you think her influence may make him go back to his old ways?
